BEST OF: Artists Turn Instagram Social Media Insta-Grand

on Tuesday, Dec. 24th

It’s the end of the year, so we’re revisiting a few of our favorite stories. Here’s one of Ike Sriskandarajah’s picks.

In Novemember we ran this story about artists using social media as a way selling their work. As part of the piece Ike Sriskandarajah profiled former Das Racist frontman Victor Vazquez AKA Kool A.D.

Vazquez posts his art for sale on Twitter and Instagram, where it’s mostly bought by fans of his music. This year, he says he’s sold nearly $5000 worth of art.  It takes him about half an hour to  fill a page with wavy lines around cartoon characters, icons from the Coexist bumper sticker and corporate America.

Listen to/read the whole piece.
