Los Angeles cinematheque The Cinefamily is an institution amongst film fans, and their annual telethon has become a holiday tradition. A non-profit, the cinematheque uses the telethon as its major fundraiser for the year.
The best part: you don’t even have to be there to attend. This isn’t a telethon in name only, the event will be streamed live online.
Last year’s event featured an appearance by Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., and this year’s is likely to be full of surprises.
The lineup includes such luminaries as: Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis & Butthead), acting legends Angelica Huston and Bruce Dern, author-director Miranda July (Me, You & Everyone We Know), comedian Kumail Nanjiani, and fresh from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and your annual Donnie Darko marathon Jena Malone.
That’s just a thin slice of who will be in attendance over the course of 24-hours. Other highlights include a delegation from San Francisco’s Exploratorium who are bringing an “all-ages program of playful experimental films for kids” Saturday morning and OMNI REBOOT editor/electronic music artist Claire Evans who will bring video rarities from OMNI’s archives on Friday night.
The festivities kick off at 1PM Pacific Standard Time this Friday, December 14th and carry on until 1PM Saturday the 15th.
