Crowdfunding Sheds Light On Game Budgets

on Tuesday, Jul. 9th

Gamasutra editor-at-large Leigh Alexander has a stellar piece on Kickstarter games at the site this week.

Alexander looks at the delays to Double Fine's Broken Age brought about thanks to a bigger budget and feature creep, and contrasts that to how the team behind the award winning FTL kept their project focused despite their over-funding. FTL's Matthew Davis even suggest Kickstarter might want to prohibit overfunding.

This is a great piece that digs deep into crowdfunded games–Broken Age and FTL are just two examples from the set–and has insight that any creative person who is looking at crowdfunding as a option needs to read.
