Battery Breakthrough

on Wednesday, Apr. 17th

Did you get excited when you first heard about graphene, and how it made it possible to have better batteries? Well get excited again, because there’s been a breakthrough in lithium-ion technology. From Ziff Davis’ Extreme Tech:

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have developed a new lithium-ion battery technology that is 2,000 times more powerful than comparable batteries. According to the researchers, this is not simply an evolutionary step in battery tech, “It’s a new enabling technology… it breaks the normal paradigms of energy sources. It’s allowing us to do different, new things.”

Now most people will think “thinner phones with faster charge times”. Which is cool. My head goes somewhere else: cars. The better the battery tech gets the better the range on electric cars.
