Illustrator Andre LeRoy Davis Brings Back His Famed Hip Hop Cartoon

Andre LeRoy Davis illustrations brought comic relief to hip hop magazine “The Source” during the 90s and early 2000s. Every month hip hop fans looked forward to picking up The Source and flipping to the back of the magazine for A.L. Dre’s “The Last Word”.
This month, A.L. Dre previewed his first “The Last Word” to run independent of The Source — as a digital cartoon. Titled “baby-blueprint,” the work plays off of Jay-Z’s new found fatherhood, 11 years after his classic album The Blueprint was released. Plus his daughter’s name is Blue Ivy Carter… get it?
“Towards the end of 2011 there was so much going on in Hip Hop that my brain like “Rainman” [from the film of the same name] was being flooded with ideas, visuals and jokes” Dre told HipHopDX. “I decided that in 2012 that it was time to once again draw specifically for the Hip Hop masses.”
