The album was showcased at a 1972 concert at the Kennedy Center in Marvin’s hometown of Washington DC. This week, the Kennedy Center is commemorating the 40th anniversary of that live performance, and has asked select musicians to re-imagine “What’s Going On” — and I’m one of those musicians.

In the spring of 1972, Marvin Gaye performed his classic album What’s Going On in his hometown of Washington, DC at The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. In celebration of that special live concert, The Kennedy Center is bringing together artists and musicians that were influenced by Marvin to relive it.
