Who Goes Harder on YouTube, Carly Rae Jepsen or Psy?

Nishat Kurwa on Friday, Sep. 21st

Let’s untangle the success of the summer’s viral YouTube hits a bit, shall we?

Both Psy’s Gangnam Style and Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe have shot past 200 million views on YouTube, with GS about 30 million views behind as of this writing.

But as YouTube Trends points out, it’s not easy to parse the comparative virality of the two. Carly Rae’s video had a head start, being posted in March. Korean rapper/singer Psy’s video was posted in mid-July. Within just two months, Gangnam Style has ratcheted up its daily view count, averaging more than six million views a day. And this survey doesn’t factor in the celebrity remakes and global popularity of CMM and GS, respectively.

This one’s still our favorite take. But we’re biased.
