“The Art Of Rap” Documentary Releases Mobile App

Brandon McFarland on Monday, Jun. 25th

Hip hop documentary, Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap, has released was a free Android and iOS mobile app, The Art of Rap, which allows users to rap over hip hop beats and share recordings of their efforts.

Record yourself over well known instrumentals from Cypress Hill, MC Lyte and 2Pac, for a 99 cents of course (there are also two free beats to rap over). Once finished, mix your track and share directly to Facebook and Twitter and on The Art of Rap web site. Create as many different mixes your bank account allows and check out other users and rate their flow.

This is a cool app to get your classic hip hp fix after watching the film. However, the app doesn’t go any further than that. There is no prize or ranking system, just a bunch of amateur raps from hip hop heads.

I first encountered Sifteo Cubes back at IndieCade last October, and spent some time playing around with the little blocks which I first mistook for iPod Nanos.

THE WEEKENDER: PRESENT SHOCK

I’m going to go out on a limb here and promise you that this will be the first of two posts on Present Shock, the Douglas Rushkoff book that has been getting a mountain of attention in the tech press since it was released earlier this month.
