Please Let This Be The Next iPhone

Apple rumor site 9 to 5 Mac has what they purport to be photos of major components of the next iPhone up at their site. Now normally I don’t go in for this kind of thing… okay, normally I don’t post this kind of thing, I look at them all the blasted time… but given the reaction that came along with the launch of the iPhone 4S I felt like some quick comment was in order.

There’s a lot of speculation on just what is going on with the metal back. The unibody argument is pretty strong. Why then, as MG Siegler asks, not just go with an all-metal back? Why do the two-tone thing? Is it, as MG notes, just to keep the color options alive?

I think the answer is partly that, and partly to give the next phone a different aesthetic texture. There were so many complaints about the 4S looking just like the 4. Complaints I found daft, but I understand that phones are fashion accessories for some people. The two-tone look gives enough of a twist that the fashionistas won’t be able to gripe that it’s the same look only in metal as the last phone.

Plus if the speculation running rampant that the metal back indicates induction charging is correct, that would be pretty boss.

Here’s the real question: how far out are we? My contract is up soon and daddy wants a new toy.

I first encountered Sifteo Cubes back at IndieCade last October, and spent some time playing around with the little blocks which I first mistook for iPod Nanos.
