UC Davis Has The Occupy Wall Street Movement Spotlight

Several protesters were pepper-sprayed by campus police while sitting peacefully during an Occupy Wall Street rally at UC Davis last Friday afternoon and people are questioning the move. In the video, people can be heard shouting “Shame on you” as the police sprayed the student demonstrators with an orange mist. NPR reports that two officers involved in the incident on UC Davis’ campus have been put on administrative leave. Critics opposed to the police’s actions are also calling for the resignation from the UC Chancellor, Linda P.B Katehi, who refuses to leave, and claims she is investigating the incident.

The next day, Chancellor Katehi attended a press conference on campus about the incident. During the event, a large group of Occupy protesters sat outside. After hours of waiting, despite the reassurance from protesters that they were peaceful, Katehi finally left the conference through a path of completely silent protesters. She says she plans to speak to them today at their General Assembly meeting.
