[Gallery] Protesters Participate In School Wide Strike At UC Berkeley

Students, faculty, parents, grandparents, have all gathered at Sproul Hall at UC Berkeley to be a part of a school wide general strike. Teach-outs, school groups and musicians came together to stand up against police brutality and tuition increases.

A wave of Berkeley Law students made their way to the campus chanting, “Whose University? Our University!” and “Berkeley law represent, We are the 99%.”

Music and dancing were also a part of the protest, which included a choir that lead protesters in song in the early portion of the gathering.

Turnstyle spoke to protester Diane Dehler, who says she’s protesting to ensure a better life for her grandchildren. “Young people are the future, my grandchildren are the future and school is becoming harder to afford,” Dehler said. Student protesters say budgets at school are making it hard to obtain the classes needed to graduate and that public education should be a priority.

Overall, police presence on campus was at a minimum, which is a sharp contrast to the scene that unfolded at the campus just a little under a week ago. Below are photos from the earlier part of the Cal protest.

I first encountered Sifteo Cubes back at IndieCade last October, and spent some time playing around with the little blocks which I first mistook for iPod Nanos.
